چکیده
Materials and methods Case-control study in with 85 patients with AIS and 25 healthy volunteers. AIS patients were classified into two groups determined by the curve mangitude): A (Cobb angle 25-40°) and B (Cobb angle >40°). Main outcomes were: respiratory muscle strength estimated by maximal inspiratory and expiratory preassures (MIP, MEP), peripherical muscle strength assessed in hands and lower limb muscles, respiratory function tests and exercise capacity. Statistical analysis: chi square test, t-Student and Pearson correlation coefficient.

Comparison of Respiratory Muscle Electromyography between Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis and Healthy Subjects
Purpose: Scoliosis is one of the most common spinal deformities that affect chest wall mechanics. Scoliosis results in ventilator disorders and respiratory muscle weakness. However, the mechanism of these disorders is still unknown. The main objective of this study was to identify the intensity of respiratory muscles activity in patients with idiopathic scoliosis compare with healthy indi...
متن کاملMuscle dysfunction and exercise limitation in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) can lead to ventilatory restriction, respiratory muscle weakness and exercise limitation. However, both the causes and the extent of muscle dysfunction remain unclear. The aim of our study is to describe muscle weakness and its relationship to lung function and tolerance to exercise in AIS patients. Lung and muscle function, together with exercise capacity,...

OBJECTIVE To analyze the impact of a physiotherapy protocol in maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressure in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) by manovacuometry. AIS may change the respiratory dynamics and the performance of inspiratory and expiratory muscles, affecting ventilatory capacity. METHODS Patients with AIS aged 10 to 20 years old were randomly assigned to receive...
متن کاملThe Effectiveness of Schroth vs. SEAS Exercise Methods for Correcting Idiopathic Scoliosis in Adolescent: A Systematic Review
Purpose: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the most common type of scoliosis and the most complex deformity of the spine. The promising results of Schroth and Scientific Exercise Approach to Scoliosis (SEAS), among other methods of exercise therapy, have attracted the attention of many researchers and therapists. However, there is still vague evidence of their effectiveness and the super...
متن کاملEffect of a preoperative protocol of aerobic physical therapy on the quality of life of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: a randomized clinical study.
Patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) have lower potential for physical activity because of lung dysfunction and lower muscle strength, which can be reversed by the cardiorespiratory and musculoskeletal conditioning provided by standardized physical activities. We conducted a study to determine if a preoperative protocol of aerobic exercise would improve quality of life (QoL) both...
